How to cancel The Times
Free step-by-step cancellation guide
There is no cancel button for UK subscribers
The Times takes UK and Ireland cancellations by phone, and offers an email route for everywhere else. Have your account details to hand before you call.
Which route is yours?
| Your situation | How to cancel |
|---|---|
| UK subscriber | Phone 0800 018 5177, 8am to 7pm GMT on weekdays. |
| Ireland subscriber | Phone 1800 949 687, or 01 536 0818 at your network's standard rate. |
| Anywhere else | Email care@thetimes.com with "Overseas Cancellation Request" as the subject. |
| Bought in the App Store or Google Play | Cancel in the store, not with The Times. |
A UK or Ireland subscriber
By phone, which is the only route The Times publishes for these countries
- Call 0800 018 5177 from the UK, or 1800 949 687 from Ireland.
- Irish callers can also use 01 536 0818, charged at their network provider's standard rate.
- Call between 8am and 7pm GMT on weekdays, or 8am and 4pm GMT at weekends and on bank holidays.
- Ask for the date your access ends, and keep the confirmation.
A subscriber outside the UK and Ireland
By email
- Email care@thetimes.com with "Overseas Cancellation Request" as the subject line.
- Quote your customer priority number, registered email address and full postal address.
Billed by an app store
Apple or Google, not The Times
- iOS: open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, select The Times and cancel.
- Android: open the Play Store → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions, select The Times and cancel.
- Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
After you cancel
The Times cancels by phone or email, so the confirmation you are given is the only record. Keep it, because a cancellation with no paper trail is hard to argue with later.
If a store billed you, cancelling there stops the renewal even if your Times account stays open.
The Times does not publish what happens to your access after cancellation, so ask for the end date on the call rather than assuming it stops immediately.
Refunds
- The Times does not publish a refund policy for subscriptions, so ask when you cancel.
- If Apple or Google billed you, the refund comes from them: Apple or Google Play.
Frequently asked
Can I cancel my Times subscription online?
Not if you are in the UK or Ireland. The Times takes those cancellations by phone, with an email route for everyone else.
What are the phone numbers?
0800 018 5177 from the UK and 1800 949 687 from Ireland. Irish callers can also use 01 536 0818, charged at their network provider's standard rate.
When can I call?
8am to 7pm GMT Monday to Friday, and 8am to 4pm GMT at weekends and on bank holidays.
I live outside the UK and Ireland. What do I do?
Email care@thetimes.com with "Overseas Cancellation Request" as the subject, and include your customer priority number, registered email address and full postal address.
I subscribed through the App Store. Do I still call?
No. Apple billed you, so cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Google Play works the same way through the Play Store.
Does deleting the app cancel it?
No. The subscription keeps renewing until it is cancelled through whichever route billed you.
What happens to my access after I cancel?
The Times does not publish it, so ask for the end date when you cancel and keep the confirmation. Most subscriptions run to the end of the period you have already paid for.
