How to cancel Telegram Premium
Free step-by-step cancellation guide
The bot is not in every build
The @PremiumBot route only exists in the direct versions of Telegram for Android, Desktop and macOS. If you installed Telegram from Google Play or the App Store, cancel in the store instead.
What expires with Premium
| Feature | After it expires |
|---|---|
| Extra usernames | You keep the ones you have already created, but you cannot create new public usernames unless you own fewer than 10. |
| Extra channels and chats in folders | Your channels and folders stay as they are, but you cannot join more channels or add more chats to those folders. |
| Extra folders | The first 10 keep working. Any others are locked. |
| Extra GIFs | Anything past the first 200 is hidden. |
| Longer bio | The first 70 characters stay visible and the rest is hidden until you resubscribe. |
| Extra pinned chats | Your first 5 pinned chats stay pinned and the rest are unpinned. |
Paid through @PremiumBot
In Telegram, from a direct build of the app
- Open the @PremiumBot chat.
- Send /stop.
- The renewal stops and Premium runs to the end of the period you have paid for.
Billed by Google Play
The Play Store app, or play.google.com in a browser
- Open Telegram and tap your avatar in the top right.
- Go to Payments & subscription, then Subscriptions.
- Select Telegram Premium.
- Cancel the subscription.
Billed by the App Store
iPhone or iPad Settings, or account.apple.com in a browser
- Open the iOS Settings.
- Tap Apple ID at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Telegram Premium and cancel it.
After you cancel
Cancelling stops every future payment. Nothing is refunded automatically.
You keep Premium until the end of the period you have paid for. Telegram publishes the list of what changes then, and the table above is that list.
To confirm it worked: the subscription is gone from Google Play or Apple subscriptions, or the bot no longer reports an active one. Telegram support cannot see a store purchase, so check the store you paid.
Refunds
- Telegram says Premium purchases are handled by third parties, so the refund comes from whoever processed it: Google Play, Apple, or the payment provider behind @PremiumBot if you subscribed through the bot.
Frequently asked
Which route cancels my subscription?
The one that took the money. If your receipt names Google or Apple, use the store. If you paid the bot, send /stop to @PremiumBot.
I cannot find @PremiumBot in my app
The bot only works in the direct versions of Telegram for Android, Desktop and macOS. The Play Store and App Store builds do not offer it, so cancel in the store instead.
What happens to my Premium features?
They last until the end of the current billing period, then the extras above stop: usernames, folders, GIFs, bio length, pinned chats and channels.
Do I lose my extra usernames?
No. You keep the ones you have already created. You simply cannot create more unless you own fewer than 10.
Does deleting my Telegram account cancel Premium?
No. The store or the bot charges independently of whether your account exists, so cancel there first and deal with the account after.
Can I get a refund?
Ask whoever processed the payment. Telegram states that Premium purchases are handled by third parties, so it cannot refund a store purchase itself.
Is there a cheaper way to subscribe next time?
Telegram prices the bot lower than the stores, because those payments avoid Apple and Google fees. It is only reachable from the direct builds of the app.
